This project is a book that explains how the concept of the witch was made by the patriarchal society to oppress women who stray from society’s standards through generations and how it is still a very real issue today.

I conducted extensive research for this project and purchased a few books about the issue to understand more about it. There was a lot of planning and organizing that went into this book since it’s such a heavy, but very important topic.

The cover represents dancing flames, so I chose this and the title “Burn in Hell” because it was one of the ways that witches were executed during their persecution. I also chose this title because it’s provoking and hopefully more people would pick it up if it were to be sold in stores to get the awareness up.

I chose the monochromatic colour scheme to bring more emphasis to certain parts of the book like the illustrations, new chapters and quotations with that pop of red. I also chose red as my bold colour because it’s bold and powerful just like the women who were and are accused of being a witch and kind of reclaiming that power today.

I created the book in Indesign and used paragraph and character styles to organize my information. I created all of the illustrations in Illustrator and brought them in to Indesign as well. I also set up a grid to keep my info and imagery in place.
